This is the story one little family
making its way from the
salty shores of New England
to the suburbs of Chicago.
It won't always be easy,
but as long as we're together,
we'll find a way to bloom where we're planted.

Fall at the Garden Center

One of the bonuses of buying our house in Kinloch was the farmstand on the corner.  We could walk to it if we were in the mood (not that we have, but we could).  We got here at the raggedy end of the summer season.  The corn was MOUTHWATERING, but the rest of the place was kind of empty.

And then FALL hit!!!  It was painful having to wait for the end of September to buy mums for my empty, languishing, front door urns, but I knew if I bought too early they'd be toast by mid-October.  But then one warm fall day, I could take it no more, so off my trusty sidekick and I went.  We came home with two lovely yellow mums that perk up the front door considerably.

Uhhhhh....what's up with the modly pumpkins! They look like they have warts!

Actually, they're not moldy! The bumpy texture was originally caused by a virus or bacteria that attacked pumpkins, but the warty look was so sought after that they eventually turned it inot a new varietal.

Odd tidbits you pick up when you read too much...

Georgy farm stand! Reminds me of Mann Orchards in Methuen. We're going there today as a matter of fact! :)
